WE, THE UNDERSIGNED CONVENORS, planners and concerned citizens of the proposed first Philippine Summit on Pornography scheduled to be held this year under the newly installed administration of Her Excellency, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, wish to manifest our deep concern and apprehension over the continued proliferation of pornography in media in our country. Today, we are outraged at the public showing of the film "LIVE SHOW" which has been released after about a month of this new Administration.

The movie is a sado-sexual public show of the use of the sexual act in a narrated story of a family in the grips of poverty. The philosophy of Nihilism is prevalent in the film, expressed in the acceptance of hopelessness which includes suicidal attempts, imparts the message to the viewer that if money becomes a problem, a way to get it is to sell one's flesh.

It tells the audience that when the life of sexual performers becomes too much to take, one can think of suicide to end it all.

The audience is treated to a perverted voyeurism witnessing the banality of group sex and of "fighting fish" episodes in direct angles.

The subliminal and direct sensual effects of the movie is irreparably corrupting all audiences, especially the youth, and including adults who view it.

"LIVE SHOW" is a complete mockery of the declared policy of our President for moral renewal in civil society and government.

It is an affront and an insult to the moral sensibility of the citizens of this country who deserve decency from the entertainment industry.

This film subverts the natural right and duty of parents in the rearing of the youth in character, morality, and civic efficiency. It is an affront to human dignity and the right of children and the youth to be brought up in an environment of decency and morality.

We therefore condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the approval and release of "LIVE SHOW". We ask for its immediate withdrawal from public exhibition, and demand strict accountability under our laws of the public officials responsible for its approval, and of the private individuals responsible for its production.

Grounded on our common biblical faith which demands righteousness in all human behavior, including acts in public life, we trust that Your Excellency will find a sense of urgency to stop obscenity in its tracks, and assure the Filipino family of a media environment conducive to the moral growth of its citizenry.
